Artist statement:
For this project, I immersed myself in the Heritage Crafts’ Red List of Endangered Crafts. I was inspired by the Women Hand-Hammered Chain Makers of the Black Country, exploring both their traditional craft and pivotal role in the political revolution for workers' rights. I sought to revitalise the craft of chain making as a medium for communication and protest in a modern struggle: trans rights.

The intention of the final work is to empower the wearer by presenting and protecting various elements. The chain encapsulates my Adam's apple, conveying notions of constraint and disruption, while the back is adorned with text from my diary. I aimed to present key themes and phrases from my personal experiences to foster discussion and education about life as a transgender individual.
